Getting filler can be an exciting experience, and many people who visit us at BeautyFix MedSpa often wait for their appointment and are excited and anxious before the treatment. It’s a great opportunity to achieve your aesthetic goals, but what happens after you leave the clinic and head home? Most people aren’t entirely sure of the best way to care for freshly injected filler, but don’t worry! The healing process is very simple, and if you follow a few easy practices, you’ll be on your way to enjoying your new look in no time. Watch BeautyFixer Giulianna talk about how to care for your filler to make the most of your BeautyQuickFix below! What happens after fillers? The three most common side effects after filler are redness, bruising, and swelling. These are all very common and nothing to worry about; it’s your body’s natural response to the injection. There are ways to limit these effects, like applying a cold compress morning and night or taking an arnica supplement, and after a few days you will probably be feeling back to normal. During these first few days, it’s also important to keep your skin clean: keep the injection sites free from makeup, keep it moisturized, and do not touch your face to prevent infection. If you’ve had a lip filler, watch this video below! What should I avoid after fillers?Exercise: For the first 24 hours, avoid any exercises or strenuous activity, as this could prolong and aggravate the swelling. Massaging: Don’t massage the area or lay on the treated areas, as we don’t want the filler to move around while it settles. Massaging or putting pressure on the area can cause migration, where the filler moves around to an area where it shouldn’t. You should also avoid facials for the next 2-4 weeks to prevent migration. Note that you might be recommended by your provider to massage lip filler to help with lumps and bumps. Always follow your provider’s recommendations for best results!Judging: While the majority of swelling, bruising and redness will subside within the first 48 hours, it’s important to remember that it will take filler about 2 weeks to fully settle. If you’re uncomfortable with your results or feel that there’s “too much”, wait a full two weeks before coming back for a follow-up appointment, especially if you’ve gotten lip filler, which takes a little longer to settle. After two weeks, our patients love the settled look and find the changes to be more natural. If not, you can always contact us for a follow-up appointment to adjust the dosage and discuss your concerns. Wait - what about Sculptra?Glad you asked, babe! Sculptra is a different type of substance used for augmenting facial features and it’s not actually a “filler” at all. It’s a collagen stimulator, made of polylactic acid. This is injected into the skin just like filler, and after a few days, it completely dissolves deep within the skin. Eventually, your body responds by making lots of collagen, so the results you see are 100% you! Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Sculptra requires a special after-care precaution to make sure it doesn’t develop any lumps or nodules. To ensure the best results with Sculptra, you’ll want to massage the treated area 5 times a day for 5 minutes for the 5 days following your visit. Here at BeautyFix, we call this the 5-5-5 rule, and whether you’ve gotten Sculptra for the face or for the booty, it applies! Make sure you stick to it and you’ll be on your way to full, voluminous results. What should I watch out for? Here at BeautyFix, safety is our #1 priority. We always practice medical protocols in our clinics, and our injectors are highly certified and have years of training and experience. Complications are rare, but we can help if they arise. If you feel any sharp pain in the treated area, notice any discoloration, severe swelling, itching or blisters, you should call your provider immediately. The provider or medical spa where you received injections understands how to properly dissolve filler and knows exactly where the filler was placed, and can better assist you than a general emergency room. Don’t wait to call - if something is wrong with your filler, it’s important to get help fast to minimize damage. Dermal fillers are a great solution for anyone looking to add volume, contour, or change the shape of your facial features. Knowing how to take care of them is the key to making your new look the best it can be!
