Many of our favorite celebs lately have been receiving Vampire-esque transformations (looking young no matter how old they get), and many of our clients at BeautyFix MedSpa have been dying to know their secrets. Our hot take? We believe that regenerative beauty is behind these stars aging backward!PRP and PRF are both tried and true treatments known for their ability to enhance the skin and hair using properties derived from your own body. Let’s break down what each of these products are and what they can do to help you stay looking forever young! What is PRP?PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is created when your injector draws your blood and then allows it to spin in a machine called a centrifuge. This machine is able to separate the plasma from the rest of your blood, which contains platelets that boost collagen production over time, especially when injected or microneedled into the skin and scalp. At BeautyFix, PRP is commonly used to treat under-eye hollowness, volume depletion, skin quality concerns, and hair restoration. What is PRF?Platelet-rich fibrin, commonly referred to as PRF, is similarly created from an injector drawing your blood, however the spinning process is slightly different. PRF is spun at a lower speed than PRP, which allows some extra properties of the blood, such as white blood cells, fibrin, and stem cells, to enter the mixture. This makes PRF more effective as compared to PRP, as it allows the collagen-boosting ingredients to slowly release through the treatment area over longer periods of time. Like PRP, PRF can also be injected or microneedled into the skin and scalp to treat skin quality concerns and hair loss. What is the difference? PRF vs. PRP: Key DifferencesBenefitsPRFPRPGrowth Factor ReleasePRF releases 8–10 times more growth factors, leading to more powerful and long-lasting effects.PRP releases fewer growth factors, with shorter-lasting benefits.AdditivesPRF is 100% natural, with no additives or anticoagulants used during preparation.PRP requires anticoagulants to prevent blood clotting, making it less natural.Fibrin MatrixPRF contains a fibrin scaffold, which helps to sustain the release of growth factors over time.PRP lacks a fibrin matrix, so its effects are more immediate but shorter-lasting.Centrifugation SpeedPRF is spun at a lower speed, preserving platelets and white blood cells.PRP is spun at a higher speed, which can damage or lose some beneficial components.LongevityPRF results are gradual and improve over weeks to months, with longer-lasting effects.PRP provides faster but shorter-lived results.ApplicationsPRF is ideal for natural rejuvenation, stimulating collagen, and improving texture and elasticity.PRP is commonly used for quicker healing in sports injuries or for minor rejuvenation. Both treatments are excellent options for restoring hair and skin for a rejuvenated and refreshed appearance without surgery. Consider PRF to be an extended version of PRP, but chemical and additive-free.
