In the age of social media and the internet at our fingertips, it’s often difficult to decipher between reality and e-craze. We’re often bombarded with speculations of which celeb had what treatment performed and the newest beauty craze you just have to try. Not surprisingly, there’s also a lot of misinformation out there about aesthetic treatments, from Botox to booty boosters and everything in between. You’ve heard the rumors, and now we’re here to put them to rest. Read through five of the most common & most-busted BeautyFix myths and get the actual truth directly from the source. “Sculptra and Radiesse are butt shots!”First up on our list is the most notorious, and it’s no surprise it’s one of our most popular questions in the comments. Have you heard of butt shots? It’s a general term used to refer to silicone biopolymer injections in the booty area used to create volume. They are against local laws and FDA regulations, and we never recommend them to our patients. But what about our two volumizing booty injectables, Sculptra and Radiesse? Both Sculptra and Radiesse are biostimulators, which means that they encourage your body to produce collagen, which gives you all that juicy volume! Biostimulators are NOT biopolymers. These products work with your body, whereas biopolymers work against it. Our BootyFixes (and all of our Fixes!) use safe, FDA-approved products and are performed by highly skilled professional injectors. “You’re too young for Botox!”(Well, this one is partially true, as you do need to be over 18 to be treated with any kind of wrinkle-relaxing toxin.) However, we’re referring to the beauty myth that believes neurotoxins (like Botox, Dysport, Xeomin and Jeuveau) are only to treat wrinkles that have already formed in older patients. While this is a great use for these products, WrinkleFix can be a great part of preventative skincare. Wrinkles are caused by the muscles in your face contracting when you move them. These are called dynamic lines, and they’re perfectly natural and everyone has them. Over time, however, the repeated contractions cause these lines to become permanent, also known as static lines. These lines are still apparent even when you aren’t moving your face, and are a bit harder to treat. When patients start WrinkleFix treatments younger, around 25-30 years old, the muscles are weakened, and can’t move as much. Less movement means softer dynamic lines, which will take a longer time to become static. Don’t worry, you can still keep a natural appearance without looking frozen! It’s about having consistent skin-care and anti-wrinkle treatment to fresh and wrinkle-free for years.“Fillers will stretch the skin and make it sag once it’s gone!”This is a common concern we hear from our patients looking into any kind of filler. We understand the misconceptions - it’s easy to see how patients could think adding a substance under the skin would make that skin looser once it goes away. However, rest easy knowing that this is absolutely not the case. The fillers we use here at BeautyFix are made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body. Hyaluronic acid attracts up to 1,000x its weight in water, which is how you get all of the volume and contouring you crave! This hyaluronic acid remains after the filler has dissolved, helping hydrate the skin from within. In fact, many patients find that receiving filler treatments actually help their skin stay tight in the long-term!“Cellulite is caused by weight gain!”Cellulite is a common concern for many women, and yet many still have misconceptions about what actually causes it. A lot of times, the assumption is that cellulite is caused by weight gain or lack of proper workout routine, however this is not the case. Instead, it has to do with fibrous bands under the skin. Over time, they thicken and pull down, creating tension. Then there’s the fat cells underneath, which push into the skin while the bands pull it down. Laxity of your skin can also contribute, as the looser your skin is, the more room there is for fat cells to occupy space. So when it comes down to it, cellulite doesn’t have anything to do with being overweight, like many people seem to think. It’s a completely natural occurrence, and while there isn’t much that can help prevent it, there are a few treatments that can lessen it, like our CelluliteFix: Venus and our CelluliteFix: Qwo.“I only need one session of Laser Hair Removal!”We definitely understand where this famous beauty myth comes from. After all, Laser Hair Removal is known for being the go-to permanent hair removal solution - that’s a fact. But, many people think that just one treatment is enough to permanently keep the fuzz away. To understand why you’ll need more than one session, let’s first look at how the treatment is actually performed. This technique works by using a laser which heats up and kills the hair inside of the follicle, as opposed to other shaving techniques which simply cut the hair, meaning it can grow back. The process takes time and requires a few sessions to completely destroy the hair follicle. The number of sessions needed are determined according to your skin type and hair growth.Laser Hair Removal is a great option for those looking to get rid of unwanted hair permanently. However, it will take more than one session before you will be completely smooth and satisfied. You’ll need around six or more rounds under the laser in order to banish that fuzz forever, with the hair getting thinner and lighter each time. Book your sessions 3-4 weeks apart and stick to your schedule. And there you have it!
